Course Description:

This course has been designed to give you the fundamental knowledge in mathematics.  Some class topics will relate to life skills or consumer topics, other topics will include higher level math related to algebra.

Essential Concepts:

1. Students will develop a variety of math strategies to show their mastery of the basic four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of real numbers.

2. Students will show their work by creating equations from word problems, and documenting the steps they follow when solving multi-step problems.

3. Students will improve their critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and analysis skills.

Class and Homework: Classwork is assigned every day, if you do not complete it in class it may become homework. Late work will be accepted as designated on each student’s individualized educational plan (IEP.) If you miss a day of school, it is your responsibility to find what you missed without interrupting the learning taking place that day. Homework following an absence must be made up as quickly as possible (before the quiz or assessment on that material.)  If a large project is overdue, it must be completed before the end of the grading period.

Text: All required texts will be provided in class, we will be using a variety of websites and tools (rulers, calculators, etc.) which will be available to use in class.

Supplies: Notebook, folder, writing utensils, highlighter, laptop with wifi access, and daily planner.

Attendance and Behavior: If you do not come to school, you cannot learn.  If you do not learn, you cannot pass this class.  If you do not pass this class, you will not graduate.  It is that simple.  Come to school, complete your work, and be respectful while you are here.  It is in your best interest.  Be on time and be ready to learn. If you are not here, you cannot earn daily points.
