Course Description:

This course has been designed to give you the fundamental knowledge in the fine arts.  Some class topics will relate to visual arts (including architecture, ceramics, drawing, film-making, painting, photography, and sculpting,) literary arts (including fiction, drama, poetry, and prose,) and performing arts (including dance, music, and theater.)

Essential Concepts:

  • Students construct and solve problems of personal relevance and interest when expressing themselves through art.
  • Students combine and apply artistic and reasoning skills to imagine, create, realize and refine artworks in conventional and innovative ways.
  • Students work individually and in groups to focus ideas and create artworks that address genuine local and global community needs.
  • As consumers, critics and creators, students evaluate and understand artworks and other texts produced in the media forms of the day.

Class and Homework: Classwork is assigned every day, if you do not complete it in class it may become homework. Late work will be accepted as designated on each student’s individualized educational plan (IEP.) If you miss a day of school, it is your responsibility to find what you missed without interrupting the learning taking place that day. Homework following an absence must be made up as quickly as possible (before the quiz or assessment on that material.)  If a large project is overdue, it must be completed before the end of the grading period.

Text: All required texts will be provided in class, we will be reading textbook passages, historic documents, and newspaper and magazine articles.

Supplies: Notebook, folder, writing utensils, highlighter, laptop with wifi access, and daily planner

Attendance and Behavior: If you do not come to school, you cannot learn.  If you do not learn, you cannot pass this class.  If you do not pass this class, you will not graduate.  It is that simple.  Come to school, complete your work, and be respectful while you are here.  It is in your best interest.  Be on time and be ready to learn. If you are not here, you cannot earn daily points.
